The state of Yucatan is located in Southeastern Mexico, in the north of the Yucatan Peninsula, just above Quintana Roo, home of the Riviera Maya.

Also bordering the state of Campeche and the Gulf of Mexico the Yucatan experiences a hot and humid tropical climate teaming with animals and rare flora. The Yucatan is a relaxing and laid back cultural wonderland filled with happy and friendly people.

Ancient Ruins and Cenotes are abundant with many more sites still to be discovered in the overgrown jungles. Maya and Spanish are the spoken languages yet many locals in the touristy places also speak English or German secondly.

In the state capital, Merida and a few other smaller romantic colonial towns, people gather nightly to enjoy free concerts and festivals in various parks and plazas. For the side street traveler, this is a great source of free entertainment and a chance to relax while making new local friendships.
