Three sites you do not want to miss are Akumal Bay, Halfmoon bay and Yalku lagoon. These quaint and charming snorkeling areas, where the water is usually about 6 feet deep. All of these areas have services and amenities. This area is pristine because the reef and ecosystem are heavily protected. The beaches are public however its illegal to disturb the Seagrass and to touch the wildlife(yes that means turtles!), so no touching or riding the sea turtles! The coral should not be touched either as it dies upon human contact. Be careful and watch for the fire reef (red coral, usually marked by buoys) which can sting you. Excessive contact can be fatal
